Losing your most precious files can be a bit worrying. In some cases, losing your files can even cause you to lose your job. Most people lose their data because of accidental deletion, hard drive corruption, faulty software, power failures, virus attacks, and others. Now, if you think that these mishaps happen too many times already, you may want to get a separate data storage for your files.
If you don’t know what data storage is, here’s an explanation for you. Data storage can be any device that is used to record or store information, data, or files. Data storage, especially for computers, often refer to memory or computer components, devices or recording media that can hold digital data. In other words, data storage is used for information retention or backup. Data or information can come in all sorts of files. Think of all the file types that you have come across in your whole life. Yes, all those files can be saved or stored in a data storage device. Examples of such files would be Word files, spreadsheets, photos, animations, video, music files, program files, text files, web pages, PowerPoint presentations, among thousands of other file types. The main purpose of having data storage is to actually have a back up storage separate of your computer’s hard drive. Once your computer hard drive crashes and if you cannot find a way to retrieve your lost files, you will be just telling yourself, “I should have backed up my files!” There are many types of data storage and many ways to back up your data. For one, an internet backup works great for such a purpose. You can keep your files through websites that offer web space in their servers. Today, online data storage is widely used for photos and videos. You may even be taking advantage of the many online backup services in the World Wide Web, without even knowing that it is what we are talking about. An example of an online file backup would be uploading your photos and creating albums at free sites like Multiply.com, Ringo.com or Kodakgallery.com. If you have an iPod, you may not know that it can also be considered a type of data storage. An iPod backup can contain music files that can be played on your computer as well. Remember that it can be synchronized with your computer, thus having two copies of your songs – one in your iPod, and one in your computer. Other types of computer backup would be Linux backup software or Linux backup, backup exec, SMB backup, backup encryption, Samba backup, Windows backup, Cobian backup, or an LVM backup among many others.
